KLC promotes journalism career

As part of our work as PR manager for schools, we send our journalist into schools to find positive stories to release to the press.

But, sometimes our school clients turn the tables on us and want to hear firsthand about careers in journalism.

Burnt Mill Academy, in Harlow, Essex, made the best use of their KLC journalist by inviting us to take part in their careers day.

Our journalist, Kelly, spent the day telling Year 8 students all about her career as a newspaper and magazine journalist and about how that work lead to her launching this PR and copywriting business.

The news appears in this week’s Harlow Star newspaper… KLC at school careers day

If you have students interested in a career in journalism, speak to us about having our journalist come and give a talk and answer their questions.

KLC makes front page

Our journalist gets front page splashes two weeks running

KLC was set up by former newspaper editor, Kelly Clark. The business has grown and evolved over the last four years to offer PR services as well as copywriting. But, the roots of the business will always be in local newspapers. So, when one Essex regional newspaper was in need of some journalism support, they turned to us for assistance. Our journalist, Kelly, was glad to assist – and scooped two front page splashes in two weeks! We may have diversified slightly in recent times, but newspaper journalism will always be in our blood. So, if you’re a newspaper editor or news editor looking for some writing support, please get in touch.

Positive publicity for our schools

At KLC, we specialise in offering PR services to schools in and around Essex.

Our journalist spends time in schools, getting to know staff and students and finding the best news stories.

Press releases are then written and given to the local press in an effort to keep up the good reputations of the schools, in turn attracting more students.

With our many years of experience in local newspapers, we know when to invite the press to send their photographers along, like with the visit by Team GB hockey player Chloe Rogers to Greensward Academy, in Hockley, Essex, recently. By inviting the press along, we gained a whole page of coverage for the visit in the Echo newspaper.

Here are a couple of other examples of the positive publicity we achieve for our schools…

Our work with schools in and around Essex entails our journalist spending time getting to know staff and students to identify positive news stories to release to the press. But, some schools also make use of having their very own journalist by getting us to give talks to students about a career in the industry. The latest school to take advantage of their links with KLC is Burnt Mill Academy, in Harlow. Our journalist Kelly took part in the school’s careers day, talking to Year 8 students about journalism and the qualities and qualifications they would need to follow her path. If you would like a journalist to speak with your media studies or English class students, please get in touch on words@kellylouiseclark.co.uk or 07979 811580.
