Vital local press for client schools

School funds are allocated by numbers of pupils. Pupil numbers grow and are sustained by a school having a positive reputation. A positive reputation comes, in part, from positive publicity in the local media.

That is where KLC steps in.

We work with lots of school clients in Essex and London to secure positive publicity in their local publications to ensure their pupil numbers continue to grow.

Our journalist is in regular contact with our client schools to gather, write and distribute positive news articles to our contacts in the local and regional media outlets, from newspapers and radio channels to news websites.

Coronavirus – promoting our schools in a new way

March 2020 saw history start to unfold before our very eyes.

The Coronavirus pandemic hit and created a world nobody had seen before.

Among the many thousands of deaths came radical changes to our daily lives… including the closure of all schools to the majority of pupils.

At KLC, we work with a large number of schools to secure them positive publicity.

With their closure came the immediate challenge to teachers and parents to find a new way of inspiring and teaching children.

For us, it meant finding our own new “normal” as we continued our mission to get our schools in the headlines for all the right reasons.

And we succeeded. Take a look at just some of the wonderful pieces of publicity we secured for our school clients in the first days of the Coronavirus pandemic school shutdown…

Producing news magazines for our clients

At KLC, we are extremely proud of the news magazines we produce for our clients.

Having a background in journalism and editing, we are well placed – with our design and print partner – to quickly and easily produce publications of all sizes and specs.

Throughout the term, we collect news stories from our many school clients which we share with the local, national and education media. To get the maximum use and exposure for the articles, we also produce news magazines which are delivered to parents, employees and stakeholders of our client schools.

The magazines provide a wonderful accompaniment to the traditional school prospectus; with the prospectus providing the facts and figures and the “need to know” information about a school and our magazines sharing the smiling faces and the nitty gritty of what goes on within our schools.

Take a look at just some of the school news magazines we have produced for our clients recently…

The Hilly High for Hillyfield Primary Academy, in Walthamstow…

Sigma News (parent version and staff version) for The Sigma Trust, Essex…

Spotlight for Maltings Academy and New Rickstones Academy, in Witham, Essex…

Trinity Magazine for Trinity Primary Academy, in Wood Green, London…

GCSE results day – PR, web content and social media

GCSE results day is, without doubt, the busiest day in our calendar.

Working with many schools, we spend the weeks and days leading up to this important time ensuring our clients know exactly what we need from them and when so we get the very best possible publicity for them.

We collect the headline figures and quotes from our headteachers to release first thing on GCSE results day. Our journalists then spend the entire day meeting and interviewing students as they collect their results, picking up the very best human interest stories to help promote our client schools.

A-level results day – PR, web content and social media posts

A-level results day is one of the busiest times of the year for us at KLC as we work to promote our education clients.

In the weeks and days leading up to A-level results day in August, we prep our sixth form clients to provide us with all the information we need, when we need it, to enable us to secure the very best publicity from this important day.

We gather the headline results from our clients, as well as quotes from key staff before speaking with students as they collect their results to give plenty of human interest stories to sit alongside the figures.

Our journalist writes and releases press releases to the media first thing on A-level results day.

As well as handling the PR and advertorial side of A-level results day for our clients, we also provided strong content to populate our client Epping St John’s Church of England School website and social media account to give them plenty of opportunities to promote themselves online…

National publicity for more education clients this month

This month’s national education magazine Teach Secondary features articles from KLC promoting our school clients.

A three-page feature in the magazine – distributed to every school in the country – looking at the debate between a two or three-year Key Stage 3 in schools includes a comment piece from KLC client BMAT.

The multi-academy trust, with schools in Essex and London, runs a unique curriculum which sees students in Year 9 achieving GCSEs. The comment, written by our journalist on behalf of the CEO, provides wonderful publicity for our client.

In the same issue of the national magazine, we secured a two-page slot for another client, Maltings Academy in Witham. We arranged for a member of staff at our client school to have a mock lesson plan featured in the magazine.

Helping schools to hit the headlines – for the right reasons

At a time when schools are facing tough budget restraints against increased pressure to succeed, it’s more important than ever for them to have the best possible reputation.

Good reputation leads to increased pupil numbers which gives a school’s budget a significant boost.

One way to achieve this is to invest in PR services.

Many schools prioritise an investment in PR with KLC as they feel it is the best way to keep their name in the headlines for the right reasons to attract parents to show an interest in their school.

Earning publicity for school clients’ exam results

Working with schools is a year-round job for KLC.

Every week, we work closely with our school clients with the mission of securing as much positive publicity for them as possible.

The summer, though, brings two of the very best opportunities to promote our schools – A-level and GCSE results days.

Our journalist handles the release of all our school clients’ exam results, as well as interviewing students to put together interesting case studies editors are always looking out for. Indeed, we are approached each year by editors and producers who know we will provide them with the very best news stories during this annual event. It is not unusual for TV and radio crews to arrange to visit our schools as part of their exam results coverage each year.

Exam results bring KLC schools publicity

It was a busy summer for KLC as we helped various school clients to release their A-level and GCSE results to the media.

With changes to the way English and maths GCSE exams are now graded, we saw both the schools and journalists enter new territory when it came to releasing and reporting on the results.

But, despite the challenge that brought, we were thrilled to still secure plenty of great publicity – including this front page splash for Nightingale Academy, in London…
